Even with regular pest inspections the telltale signs can be overlooked or undetected and once the damage is done there is nothing to do but replace compromised timber.
From deck posts to window frames, nothing is safe!
I recently replaced two timber posts holding up a carport and then re-used one of the posts from the same job to replace a termite ravaged window frame support.
The timber posts in question were only rotten on the bottoms where they came in contact with the wet concrete when it rained so after cutting off the rotten part I proceeded to make a new piece to replace what the white ants had eaten.
The hungry insects had made a real meal of this post and the only thing holding it together was a layer of paint!!
Here is the re-cycled post from the car port, with a couple of coats of paint the job is complete.
