The non slip tape was smooth from years of use and the edges were lifting making it more of a hazard than a grip surface.
After re-inforcing the top two treads with some non structural pine I set to work cleaning the stairs ready for a coat of primer.
Prep work determines the final outcome of any painting job and using a primer is essential on surfaces like stairs where heavy traffic will be an issue.
After my primer was dry, I put the first coat of Jet dry non slip paint on the treads...
After a lovely lunch at the local cafe I returned to find the paint dry enough to install the non slip aluminium stair nosing I had cut to length earlier.
A second coat of the non slip paint finished the job off nicely and the ladies in the clothing shop can rest assured that they won't be taking any unexpected trips on their way down to the loading dock.
Risk can never be completely eliminated but it can certainly be minimized.
