This wall was stained and cracked and was in urgent need of a cosmetic makeover. The staining was due to mould and the cracking was from a rectified drainage problem.
After cleaning the surface thoroughly with sugar soap, I applied two coats of (Zinsser cover stain) primer. This primer is specifically designed to cover up stains and it does a very good job on mouldy shower ceilings and discolouration like the patches on this wall.
Once the primer was fully dry I patched the cracks with acrylic render.
One more coat of primer on the render patches and my wall was ready for the first top coat.
Two coats of paint and one pink shirt (formerly white) later, and the wall was in great shape.
